Dr. Nadina Galle, ecological engineer and Dr. Christine Carmichael, founder and principal consultant of Fair Forests Consulting, LLC joined us for our May 2024 Boston Urban Forest Friends meeting to discuss their new books “The Nature of Our Cities: Harnessing the Power of the Natural World to Survive a Changing Planet” and “Racist Roots: How Racism Has Affected Trees and People in Our Cities - and What We Can Do About It.”

Kat Eshel, Chief of Staff, Mayor's Office of Environment, Energy and Open Space and Todd Mistor, Director of Urban Forestry for the City of Boston joined us for our February 2024 Boston Urban Forest Friends meeting to discuss the newly passed public tree ordinance, what is expected to come, and answer any questions from community members.

Boston Urban Forest Friends Symposium 2023

On Saturday, June 24, 2023, the highly anticipated Boston Urban Forest Friends Symposium took place at the beautiful Arnold Arboretum Weld Hill Research Building. The event brought together 60 people both in-person and online, offering a unique platform for residents and organizations to learn, connect, celebrate, and share their stories of contributing towards a greener Boston.

Boston Urban Forest Friends Symposium 2022

The Boston Urban Forest Friends (BUFF) held its first Symposium on June 25th at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square. With nearly 40 people in attendance, the event was an opportunity for residents and organizations to learn, connect, celebrate, and share stories about the work they are doing to plant, care for, and save trees in their communities.

Maggie Owens from the Boston Parks and Recreation Department joined us for our February 2022 Boston Urban Forest Friends meeting to update us about the Urban Forest Plan, how it’s going in the new year and answering questions from the group.

 

Boston’s Urban Forest Plan

Maggie Owens from the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and Rachel Comte from Urban Canopy Works joined us for the April 2021 BUFF meeting to tell us more about the Urban Forest Plan and where they’re at in the process, as well as answer questions from the group.

 
 

Challenges of Public-Private Partnerships

Andrew Petitdemange joined us for the January 2021 BUFF meeting to talk about his master’s thesis Challenges of Public-Private Partnerships: A Case Study of the Boston Urban Forest Coalition. He discussed characteristics of strong tree planting partnerships, and how we can learn from past efforts to envision the future of BUFF.
